concerts i've been to!!

July 22, 2016: Sonic 25th Anniversary Party

Crush 40

It was pretty fun! I was a huge Sonic fan back in the day, so being able to see Crush 40 and playtest Sonic Mania was a dream for me. I got sick off the onion rings they sold at the venue, though.

June 11, 2022: San Diego County Fair

311

Something, something, I don't remember much. It was a standard concert. Pretty fun.

September 23, 2022: Kia Forum

EARTHGANG

Gorillaz

Great concert, even if I hated the people next to me. New Genious (Brother) was a highlight, given they hadn't played it ever at that point. The Spacemonkeyz visuals were a plus. EARTHGANG were amazing.

May 20, 2023: North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre

The Twilight Sad

The Cure

I literally participated in a random person's birthday party next to the venue in a random neighborhood. I also jammed out with a random dude oddly enough. The Cure and The Twilight Sad were both fantastic, even if the venue wasn't as fantastic.

June 22, 2023: San Diego County Fair

Boyz II Men

Good concert. I like them. Nothing more.

July 28, 2023: Greek Theatre

Ween

I hated being in Los Angeles for a long, long, long time. This time, I wasn't able to do much given there was a heatwave at the time, so relaxing in a Burbank library whilst beating the heat was fine.  A bit boring, but hey, Ween delivered as usual.

I met a man whose name I've forgotten, but I'll just call him "God" - he was a Mr. Bungle fan with a "13" tattoo (if you're not aware, that's a Blur album). He was the coolest dude around; this guy managed to see every major concert that I would've loved going to and was super humble about his experiences. Cheers.

The crowd were on their feet, and I managed to sneak into the GA pit thanks to an employee who really brightened my day.  The number one highlight was hearing Pollo Asado live.

Aug 8, 2023:  Viejas Arena

Sir Chloe

Japanese Breakfast

Phoenix

Beck

I am one of the only non-middle-aged Beck fans in existence. Wow was unfortunately played live; can someone please tell Beck to stop playing that song? No wonder why he hadn't released an album until 2026.

He actually wasn't the best band there - that honor goes to Japanese Breakfast. They more than made up for what Beck lost. Jubilee is still a fantastic album.

Sep 23, 2023: Super Girl Pro 2023 Festival

Loren Gray

Bea Miller

Bea Miller was fantastic! I don't remember much else beside that.

Sep 24, 2023:

Bipolar Sunshine

Beach Weather

Flipturn

Beach Weather was a one-and-done band to me. Flipturn, on the other hand, were memorable. Something about being right in the front helped that experience out. Otherwise, I have nothing more to say.

February 17 / 18, 2024:  The Sound

Ween

I met one of my best friends at this concert. One of the most insane I've been to with several fights and multiple arrests. I hope they return to playing live, even if the chances are super slim at this point.

August 8, 2025:  Greek Theatre

WHY?

Car Seat Headrest

Everything beside the concert was memorable. Well, maybe that statement isn't the most truthful thing I've said, but this concert came at a time where I had just come back from multiple near-death experiences, so perhaps a concert was the last thing on my mind.

I got a couple Beck records while in LA, and even had a prophecy made about me. CSH was... fine, I suppose? Their new album was great live, but I only went out of partial obligation. Oh well.

September 19, 2025: Bornemann Theatre

EXTC

A surprisingly great tribute band led by Terry Chambers. I had such a blast, and being able to hear some of Mummer live was amazing. No notes.

November 22, 2025:  The Magnolia

Al Jardine

By far the weirdest concert I've been to. If it makes anything better, the setlist had She's Got Rhythm on it.  And that might the biggest blessing I've gotten from an octogenarian. Otherwise, the live mixing was pretty poor, and my wallet was stolen. Poor me.

July 11, 2026:  Voodoo Room

Turning Jane

High Fade

Turning Jane were the cooler band that night. They played pretty straight and forward, unlike the disco-grooved Motorhead rip-off that sent my ears into a brick wall. I like Motorhead, too, and High Fade were not it. Sorry boys, but perhaps you need to open that wall of sound up before playing any more material.

If it brings any solace to anyone, I did buy a Turning Jane crop top.
