I finally did it! Yesterday I took my ass over to Planned Parenthood and finally got an IUD in. I've been scared to do so for, like, a full on year, but it honestly went way better than I expected.
First, I did take painkillers before my procedure as I was directed. I had some that were stronger than just OTC meds, but I really do think I would've been fine even without it. My provider also used a topical lidocaine cream, which I also think really helped. It was deffff painful but, like, really not that bad? It lasted for only a few seconds and I've most definitely had period cramps that were worse. I also had my fiance there to hold my hand and support me before, during, and after the procedure, and that was a huuuuge help. I seriously don't know what I would've done without him.
Now, what has been bad are the cramps I've been experiencing yesterday and today, but again, it feels like a pretty typical period (I have really light cramps to begin with so I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to this lol). I've been taking ibuprofen and acetaminophen and hunkering down in my house with a heating pad and popsicles my fiance brought me. I also have been having headaches on and off, but I think that's more related to stress and anxiety than anything. Today I ended up sleeping for literally five hours after my classes and I'm feeling a whole lot better now.
Anyway, no regrets overall (at least so far, I mean a lot can happen in the next 12 years until I need to get it out again). I also did it around the same time as 3 other friends, so having an IRL support group where we can all share our experiences and give suggestions has been really nice.
