Current social networks and the decline of human connection

Today I've entered this space with the intention of sharing art, reflections, and maybe a bit of random posting, simply to have a more authentic space for myself, but above all, to connect with new people and worlds.

Lately, I've had many questions about how we currently relate to each other, traditionally through massive networks like TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook. I grew up in those spaces and I've witnessed a stark decline in interpersonal connection, because now there's a strange hierarchy. Spaces are no longer about "I'm going to socialize here," now social media is about "either I'm a creator or I'm a spectator."

There's nothing inherently wrong with that dynamic, but it leads to social media experiences based on idol worship, following false gurus, and damaging personal judgment. It's not enough for you to know something yourself; you need at least five famous content creators to confirm what you say or think to validate it. And it's an attitude or way of life that I've seen strongly reinforced, because we're all tired, because nobody wants to think, because it's easier to trust someone everyone follows than yourself or your own experience.

I've observed these behaviors in person; I'm not generalizing, but that's precisely why I believe spaces like this are essential and important, because they do try to foster genuine human connection. Here, we are all creators, we all express ourselves, and there isn't a specific algorithm that decides to punish or silence the content or things that someone else has to say. That's why I wanted to come here, because I'm tired of algorithms and social hierarchies. It's better for everyone to talk to each other and reason, to build new worlds and new ways of thinking, to validate each other, to understand each other, and, just as importantly, to express ourselves without judgment.

Something that really makes me think is how everyone creates content but doesn't interact UNLESS they want to offer criticism. I don't see much genuine connection or desire to build relationships; people don't want to listen or read, they just want likes or to be followed. What good is having so many followers if you don't even know them? Socializing, communicating, and connecting are essential. It's not just about posting and hoping someone cares; it's about having the genuine intention to engage with these new spaces.
