Day 61
Well, today makes 61 days of living like it's 2006.
Honestly, I didn't really expect to still be doing this.
When I started, I thought this was going to be a challenge. Something I'd try for a while and then probably move on from. I wanted to see what it would be like to live with less of the stuff we have now and more of the things I remember liking about the 2000s.
But now I'm starting to wonder if I even want to call it a challenge anymore.
It's just kind of how I live.
I listen to CDs. I watch DVDs. I play games. I use my phone, but I don't feel like I have to be on it every second. I actually sit around sometimes without needing something to fill the silence.
And weirdly enough, I like it.
I think one of the biggest things I've learned is that I don't actually miss being connected to everything all the time.
I don't need to know what everybody is doing.
I don't need to post everything I do.
I don't need to take a picture every time something happens.
Sometimes I just want to listen to music and enjoy it.
Sometimes I want to play a game and not record it.
Sometimes I just want to hang out with Jane and actually be there instead of thinking about my phone.
That's probably what I like most about this.
It feels more personal.
I've also been thinking about why I started this in the first place. At first I thought it was mostly because I liked 2006. The music, the games, the internet, the phones, the whole atmosphere of it.
But I think there's more to it than that.
I think I wanted to slow down.
I'm 25 now, and I've been thinking a lot more about growing up and what kind of person I actually want to be.
I don't want to spend my whole life staring at a screen.
I want to have stories.
I want to have memories.
I want to be someone people can count on.
And I don't think being mature means getting rid of everything I enjoy. I can still play video games. I can still listen to stupid songs. I can still get excited about old technology and CDs. I can still be myself.
