Day 65 — October 3, 2026

Day 65 — October 3, 2026

I've been thinking a lot about what this whole 2006 thing actually means to me.

When I started this, I think part of me was trying to recreate a time I never really got to experience the way I imagined it. I wanted the music, the CDs, the old Internet, the phones, the games, the clothes, the feeling of coming home and sitting at a computer instead of immediately getting sucked into everything happening online.

But after 65 days, I'm starting to realize something.

I'm not really trying to go back to 2006 anymore.

I'm trying to figure out what I can take from it.

Today I was listening to "The Story of a Girl" by Nine Days, and it got me thinking about how different the world feels compared to what I imagine the mid-2000s being like. Technology has changed so much. The Internet has changed. Music has changed. Even the way people communicate has changed.

And sometimes I genuinely miss something I didn't even personally experience.

That's probably the weirdest part of this whole experiment.

I'm not trying to pretend that it's actually 2006. I know it's 2026. I know I have a Chromebook, a smartphone, modern websites, modern responsibilities, and a completely different world around me.

What I'm trying to do is slow down.

I want my computer to feel like something I sit down and use instead of something that constantly demands my attention. I want music to be something I listen to instead of something an algorithm chooses for me. I want my blog to actually be a place where I write my thoughts instead of another thing I feel like I have to optimize.

I've also realized that being a "mature 2006 man" isn't really about pretending to be someone from 2006.

It's about taking some of the qualities I associate with that time and bringing them into my actual life.

Being responsible.

Having interests outside of the Internet.

Taking relationships seriously.

Learning things because I'm genuinely curious.

Having my own taste instead of worrying about whether something is currently popular.

And being comfortable with growing up.

That's probably the biggest thing I've learned since my birthday.

I'm 25 now, and I've started feeling that maturity in a way I didn't expect. I'm thinking more about the person I want to become, the kind of life I want, the people I care about, and the things I want to carry with me into the future.

So maybe Day 65 isn't about recreating 2006.

Maybe it's about taking what I love about 2006 and making it part of who I am in 2026.

I don't need to live in the past.

I just don't want the present to make me forget how to actually live.

Day 65.

Still here.

Still listening.

Still figuring it out.
