disaster in self-orientation!

just had my first official day of my field methods class (last week didnt count to me since we didnt do any field work) and im so embarrassed!!

(basically this class is going out on trips to look at rocks and sediments as budding geologists. we write our findings on notebooks (which could become legal documents!) which includes sketches, locations, directions, and general information about the geoogic makeup of the place we're at. knowing how to navigate and orient yourself is super important!!)

our professor was having us do a little hunt where we'd put the orienteering and basing knowledge to practical use in a safe environment. i was always at least 5 meters off (if i was lucky..) of every clue she put down! it got so bad the ta thought smth was wrong with my compass...

i knew i had a bad sense of direction, but i didnt think i could get so lost with a compass and some math. i think i might be worse with this than using a map (which im terrible at!!). my solution for now is to try and always stick with at least one person so we can crosscheck our math (which im also kind of bad at)

im not gonna give up!! im gonna keep trying my best so i can get good at basic navigation!!! and maybe ill figure out math too!!!
