"Doin' everything the hard way..." (10/24/2026)

...still hanging in there, y'all. Or at least trying to. Things are certainly getting worse regarding my grandma but fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) I'm being left out of the loop. She's probably going to die surrounded by friends and family, but what then? Extended family's probably going to tear itself apart over the will and her belongings. I'm beginning to get the feeling that sometimes you need to turn your back on family.

...otherwise I really don't have much else to say. Really, the only other exciting thing happening right now is that I'm starting a graphic design class next week. Seems like the first week is just about getting adjusted, which...comes as a relief! I'll be perfectly honest with you and say that I was hoping there wouldn't be much actual work involved for the first week. The DJ Shadow concert I bought tickets to happens on Thursday and there isn't a chance in hell that I'm missing it.

...oh and I just remembered: I got fuckin blindsided a couple nights ago when an online friend told me that a mutual had, of all things, decided to flee the United States and emigrate to Thailand with 2 other people who are in a polycule with her. There's just wild shit happening out there. For the record, I see nothing wrong with it, it's just...man. You know the scene in Lost Highway where Fred meets Robert Blake's character? You know the way he says "that's fuckin' crazy, man"? That's pretty much just my reaction.

...listening: "Same Place the Fly Got Smashed" by Guided by Voices. Another day, another Bob record. This one is probably his darkest, being a concept album of sorts, one which tells a story about a violent, nihilistic drunkard (the apt "Drinker's Peace" and the solemn "When She Turns 50") who murders someone and is promptly arrested and executed ("Local Mix-Up/Murder Charge"), with the final two songs (the morose "Blatant Doom Trip" and the serenely dissonant "How Loft I Am?") being his reflections on the afterlife. How positive and uplifting.
