Dull Life Update + Musings 08/18/2026

...had discussion with someone who I hardly ever interact with but who considers themselves my friend about what type of gun a certain model was holding in a shitpost I sent in a Discord server. After much deliberation and thought we came to the conclusion that it was an M16 with a frankly ridiculous amount of aftermarket modifications applied to it. Like anyone could've guessed that. I'm writing this down now and realizing how stupid it looks. Neat!

...did NOT watch Inglorious Basterds with friends. I'll freely admit that I've never been one for the works of Tarantino. I appreciate his contributions to the silver screen and respect their place within discussions of Great Movies but I just could never get into him past Pulp Fiction or so. I'm not one of those guys who hates him because his inspiration, at times, borders on outright theft, though. Frankly I think that argument is silly, "great artists steal" and whatnot. I dunno, I guess his films are just...dull? In my eyes, at least.

...my Nirvanna The Band The Show rewatch continues at glacial pace. "The Buffet" and "The Burger" remain uncontested as two of the greatest episodes in television, if you ask me. The Buffet is fairly spectacular in that these coincidences throughout the episode keep piling up until the very end when it's revealed that NONE of them happened coincidentally and Matt orchestrated it all as a ploy to keep Jay as a friend. It's all done so convincingly too. Guerilla filming works well.

...album of the whenever: "Repetition" by Unwound. Clever, emotional post-hardcore stuff. "Unauthorized Autobiography" and "Devoid" are the favorites, and I also quite like how chaotic and messy "Go to Dallas and Take a Left" is. I think Sara Lund is probably one of the most unsung drummers in music.
