Apathy. It’s like the exact opposite of empathy. We don’t feel for others, we don’t exactly feel for ourselves. It’s terrifying.
Everything that has happened since 2020 is affecting us. Every little thing in our lives. Every detail, every moment, every touch. We have all been affected by it.
What does conflict do to us then?
The more we see this conflict, the more we get used to it. COVID? Oh, we didn’t die anyways. Charlie Kirk’s death? I got used to gore, it’s not that hard to watch the video. Celeste Hernandez death? To be honest, I had to Google her name because I forgot about it.
This isn’t funny. This isn’t “unbothered”. We are not unaffected. We see gore from movies, tv shows, games, and it’s normalized. And then we see it in real life. Wars, genocides, oppression. Jokes about murder. Charlie Kirk was horrible, but he should not die. Children in Palestine should not die. Women in Afghanistan should not be forced to stay silent.
WAKE UP!
WE ARE SO USED TO THIS!
We should not be. People are not just statistics. PEOPLE ARE NOT STATISTICS! Get that in your heads. We are dying. We are assaulted. We are killed, murdered, silenced. We can’t let everything go. We need to FEEL. Feel the wind and the sun and lay on your floor. Take time to just stare at the ceiling, process everything.
FEEL. I talk to the moon, I talk to myself. I get frustrated. I cry. I laugh. I remember.
Don’t let these years pass you by. Don’t let these people erase us. Make a difference! Do something! Make yourself happy! Give someone a compliment. Feel ALIVE!
