That's like saying Russian's could say whatever they want in the USSR, but they just got thrown in the gulgag, tortured, and killed for it. That's not the freedom to say whatever you want. Most people in the USA are sooooo subverted that they have forgotten what the 1st ammendment and free speech really means.
Free speech means you can SAY whatever you want withOUT consequences.

the first amendment literally states, "congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech..."
Notice how it DOESN'T state "you're free from consequences." It says Congress (the government) can't make laws restricting your speech.
You're free to say the "n word." other people are equally free to think you're racist (which you are), criticize you, stop associating with you, etc. etc.
comparing social consequences to being sent to a SOVIET GULAG is a false equivalence. the USSR literally punished speech through the government. someone getting called out or facing private consequences in the US is not the same thing as the state imprisoning people for their opinions
