I barely made it through my exam season and now I am back home from Uni and all my friends are back in their hometowns as well. Sooo i am a bit lonely and would like new friends!

oh yes id love to recommend you stuff! what would you like? more cozy magical fantasy or something a bit more darkish with political / war aspects?? Fantasy has such a wide range its insane!!
ive mostly been painting and i started making collages for books i really enjoyed! But ive also been wanting to start a big photo-album-scrapbook-journal-thingy. But i am too lazy rn 😴

dude scrapbooks sound so cool😭😭but i just Know i'll abandon maintaining it after finding out it doesn't fill itself (much like when i tried painting back in april... that shit takes SO MUCH TIME)
for the books something on the more grim side does sound more enticing to me, just finished attack on titan (not necessarily a book LOL) so that still lingers in my head...
also.. please do share some of your work if you ever have the time, i'd love to see!

i'm like... 30℅ done with that painting where i just freestyled (and realised my imagination sucked ASS). i think i'd be comfortable sharing if i just stopped being a lazy bum for a second and just finished it😭😭
i sadly do not have tiktok (or like. most other antisocial social media platforms for that matter) but maybe you can upload stuff via im's? (probably not)
i forgot to ask: what would be your favourite books in general? feel like literally everyone has a different answer to it and said answer always ends up being something i've NEVER heard of...
(looking forward to recommendations, till then i'll probably be reading random game developer blogs and scp articles..)

ohh my favourite book, such a hard question! ive loved so many and it honestly depends on my mood. BUT i have a fav rn, its Whicked Thieves by rose marie! its from an indie author and i randomly found her account on tiktok and gave the book a try. it turned out to be everything my 13yo-self couldve ever wanted from fantasy. it was so good and the author is such a sweetheart! its about two sisters with hidden abilities and after one of them is arrested for her magic and brought to the palace prison the other has to team up with a group of rebels to take down the king!

wicked thieves sounds like such a cool concept, though i've grown a little more cautious when throwing that sentence around (the last few scifi 'thrillers' i picked up left me very disappointed despite their excellent blurbs). sure this one's different (and not a scifi thriller LOL), you think i should check it out? btw where do you even find these books😭i mean SURELY it isn't all from social media right...

ahh omg have a nice vacation!!
i do find most of my books through social media because i often search for book recs! other than that i am on pagebound and goodreads (both platforms for tracking your books and sharing opinions!) but i also like to just stroll through bookstores!
okay so here goes:
if you like witches/nordic elements: the Rosenholm Triology by Gry Kappel Jensen, it has similar aspects to harry potter because it also takes place in a magical school but its a lot more grim and features different kinds of magic. Its about four girls and a murdered ghost girl that seeks revenge. So they try to solve that mystery.
if you like witches/ blood magic/ Political aspects: the Crimson Moth Duology by Kristen Ciccarelli. in this world witches = bad. So this young witch pretends to be a high society woman to smuggle other witches out of the republic. So she tries to seduce this commander to get acces to the prison but he suspects her as well so its a bit cat and mouse like. BUT its very focused on their relationship / romance and less on the war.
if you like pirates and sirens: the song of salt and shadow by seren rose. It also has a romance subplot and one explicit scene towards the end but its about a siren without a tail and a cursed pirate crew. Many cool worldbuilding aspects and its a standalone.
if you like a traditional fantasy with princes/ princesses etc: The remnant chronicles by Mary E Pearson! this one has like 5 books and is very focused on politics, prophecys and battles. Its about a runaway princess that doesnt want to get married, a prince (the one she is supposed to be marrying) and an assasin send to kill her. The cool thing is, that you as the reader dont even know which guy is which.

if you like poison etc: the belladonna Series by Adalyn Grace.
Its about a girl that can converse with death himself that is send to live with remote family after her aunt dies. The family estate is haunted and she tries to solve the family mystery! i really liked that she uses belladonna berries to be able to talk to death! it has a few explicit scenes later on but they arent that long and easily skipped.
a few books that i havent read yet but fit the vibe and are high on my tbr:
- the shepherd king duology by Rachel Gillig
- Where the dark stands still by A.B Poranek (this has some folklore aspects i believe)
- Grave Flowers by Autumn Krause
- Anathema by Keri Lake
some of them might be more gloomy than grim and I am not sure how explicit they are!
Im not sure if any of that is your taste but maybe you will like one! they all have a somewhat romantic aspect so im not sure if you like that! Do let me know!!

ahh i just looked through my shelf again and i found two more books you might like, they are more dystopian but sadly they are in german and as far as i know they have not been translated 😭

Cryptos by Ursula Poznanski (shes a great author for dystopian ya books!!)
Aquamarin by Andreas Eschbach, this one kinda features bioengineering and genetic manipulation!

ahh my responses are all over the place but i just reread your reply and yes you shoudld check whicked thieves out if you like witches/blood magic! it also features some romanian folklore, political problems, poison and potion, and monsters!!

i think the fact you took this much time n effort to write this contractually obligates me to read a few of these... which doesn't sound bad given that you make the books here sound good! guess i will be harassing the local library (and otherwise my creditcard LOL)
i am familiar w goodreads and use it to vet the books i see at the bookstore (THIS DOESN'T WORK I SUCK AT IT) but the other site seems like a nice pickup so one more Thank you for that
if you're going to read any of the books you mentioned do let me know! i'll probably snatch a copy and do the same
and for the german books... i'm afraid my german isn't that good, though the concepts sound amazing and i would definitely want a translation of them😭😭and reminds me of how many dutch books i want translated as well, they're just that good to me.. but instead i'm completely stripped from my ability to share these gems with the world :/ IF ONLY everyone spoke every language am i right
