upon first meeting that person, you see the outer layer, or the initial impression they put themselves as. it appears white, as you don’t know much about them, so you cherish the tiny things they do—the small sparks of color that show their expression and personality.

whether it starts as an introduction, a convenient conversation, or an unexpected push of impulse—you begin to speak and interact with this person. just like making a new friend, an unsaid goal is to get to know them personally—or in other words, make it to their core, the heart. a jawbreaker candy has many layers till the core, and that’s the same with any person.

as you get to know them—every day, month, or more you get to talk to them and learn more things about them, you get to figuratively see the different layers of that person. with time passing, you slowly seep through their layers, maneuver through the walls they put up, and experience things—stages of life, phases, quirks, and their “different colors”.

having the privilege to be a constant person in their life is beautiful, seeing and remembering their interests and milestones. it’s only a moment in time when you finally reach that core, their heart—and understand them, not just as someone you fancy, but as a whole person and value.
