you can talk about them (*interests) to anyone in this comment section but that'd be cheating, no?
it probably helps to have stuff on your profile. if people don't know what you're into it's hard to talk about it Unless they explicitly ask about it
other than that just send friend requests to people you think would make for cool friends! what's the worst that could happen?

A really good concern. When it comes to interests, sometimes they're too hyper specific.
Try making blog posts here and see if something attracts people with the same interest?
Irl, it's a little harder to find a place to talk about interests, though not impossible.
I think that online you kinda start opening up to others about what you like and see what sticks.
Blog entries here are cool, but the forums are excellent for specific topics. >:3
