the boredom paradox

first blog here, gonna get existential for abit but hey

isn't it interesting how we're at a point in time where we essentially have UNLIMITED forms of entertainment at our fingertips, yet it is so easy for us to, well, be bored? this is exactly what drove me to start writing this. there are so many possible ways to entertain myself (watching something, gaming, drawing, reading), yet none of it sounds appealing and i end up bored

the reasons are actually quite different from one person to another. maybe it's an addiction to doomscrolling/instant gratification. maybe it's ADHD. people like calling internet content that fries your dopamine receptors "ADHD content", but when you have ADHD, your dopamine receptors are fried without you even doing anything (i should know)

but either way, it's so strange to me. we have such a novelty at our mere fingertips. i can do all sorts of things with the laptop i'm typing this on: write a story? animate? play games? connect with the entire globe? watch movies or shows? imagine how surreal all of this would be to someone from the 80s

futuristic. you probably know about the whole "future we were promised but never received" frutiger aero skeumorphic stuff. beautiful aesthetic, but also depressing to think about. but you've definitely heard that from youtube commenter with clippy pfp number 1000. corporations suck, AI sucks, flat designs are boring. even attempts at making frutiger aero and other aesthetics more popular again feel disingenuous. it's okay for some things to become niche. frutiger aero used to be used by APPLE and MICROSOFT, doesn't the idea of indie-fying it sound more appealing? i digress

i could go on an entirely different tangent about all my gripes with AI but that's an entirely different can of worms. but for now? i'm hungry and i want to eat something. goodbye
