hi!! this is what helped when i wrote my first novel

1. don't be afraid to write it out of order! there might be some scenes that you're really excited to write, go ahead and write some. it helps with foreshadowing and setting something up long before it needs to be paid off.

2. building off of that, knowing what's important for the plot ahead of time. whether it's plot details or character arcs. you don't necessarily need to have the entire story planned out beat for beat, but it's good to know where everything and everyone ends up before going in.

3. have some writer or reader friends to keep you accountable! i would read each of my chapters to a friend after writing them, and it really helped with making sure the wording made sense, and it gave me someone to talk about it with and bounce ideas off of.

4. write. everything. down. every idea, any worldbuilding/research you do, and anything you want to go back and revise. sometimes our memories aren't as good as we'd like them to be, and it really helps to have it all in one place, especially when you go back and edit later on!

i hope some of this helps. like other comments say, giving tips can be difficult because everyone's writing style and stories are different! if you have more specific questions, feel free to reach out or hit up the Writing/Books forum!

I always would hold myself back from writing later scenesโ€ฆso that will honestly help me so much to get those out of my system!! I appreciate everything u said so so very much!!!! Thank u very much for this. I will keep everything in mind! And Iโ€™m grateful for the added support as well! :D

It's hard to give tips, everyone writes differently. I'd say don't be too hard on your style, it's normal to sometimes have an unstable style when you're starting out writing. It's also normal to sometimes feel like the dialogue or other parts feel "empty." Sometimes a few tweaks are helpful, but definitely don't overdo it. And above all, pay attention to the tense you're using, it's a bit clichรฉ, but it's very easy to get mixed up while writing, especially between breaks, and that can make correcting it really annoying.ย That's it! Good luck with your novel :D

Thank u very much! It definitely is very hard not to beat myself up over my style- and dialogue can be so tricky, so thanks for the reassurance!! I appreciate it :)
