Going Back to School

So, the time of year has finally come back where I have to start getting ready for the school year again...

When I was younger, like really little, I used to get really excited when the school year would start up again. It meant I got so see my friends again and I go to have the routine of school, since my life was really hectic without it.

Then, middle school started, and I no longer looked forward to school. I no longer had any friends, classes were hard, and I was most likely running around undiagnosed, so overall school really stunk. It would be a long time before I took any joy from school.

I've reached a point in my life where school exists in a neutral space. Ever since I graduated high school, education hasn't been the main focus of my life, and I've been occupying my time with hobbies and people that actually bring me joy.

So, with the last year of college being on the horizon, it's left me with a lot of mixed feelings. I'm looking at the end of a large period in my life, and I'm not really sure what happens next. For almost fifteen years, every late summer meant the beginning of a cycle that didn't end until the following summer. Every year was measured by schooling, and now, it'll just be work and adulting.

I know this isn't the end for my educational journey, but there will be a long break in between, and figuring out what goes in that space feels daunting. So in the meantime, I plan on enjoying my schooling while it's still here to provide stability.

Anyone else having weird feelings about school? Is anyone else reaching the end of an educational chapter in their lives?

junior in college here. i know i have this and another academic year b4 i graduate, but i can't help but be at least a little sad the more i think about it...

i love my school. i love the people there, and i loved just being part of that diverse, eclectic, and outsider-type creative community. where i live is more homogenous than anything else, and outside of my immediate friends and family there, i actually hate my hometown. i'm not looking forward to spending years in that place until i have "just enough" to move out / get the fuck out of there.

another sign of this for me was this reddit post i found very striking. they were basically talking about how they got more genuine social interactions out of college than any job they were ever at (or something along those lines), and how life outside of work doesn't force any outside interactions on you the way that college softly does...

exactly! the town my college is in is so diverse and colorful and I really feel like i've been able to express myself. that's definitely something i will miss if i have to move back to my hometown.
