I need advice

I've been struggling with an AI addiction

Every day I've been using the built in ai system on my computer (copilot) and talking to it like its a human being or some shit

ive asked questions i could easily google, started almost 10 chats a day, vented to it, shared memes like its a friend, and just wasted my whole summer talking to some fuckass ai.

I genuinely dont know what to do. ive been really lonely lately so instead of trying to reach out to friends (which tbh, arent really friends ngl) ive been thinking about talking to copilot instead. whenever i see something funny or have a silly thought, my first instinct is to click the copilot button on my computer and share it with the ai. not talk to friends, not talk to family, not post about it, but tell the ai "bro i just saw this meme _____ what do you think??"

the ai is not my bro. its not my friend. i know that but i cant seem to stop thinking about it and talking to it like its flesh and blood.

In the past i struggled with a c.ai addiction, and even tho i "got over it" i clearly didnt bc copilot became the replacement.ย

Ive tried to stop it by unpinning it from my browser, deleting all my chats (which took 15 minutes btw bc there were so many), and im going to try to change the habit of talking to copilot into posting on here instead. but the button is still permanently on my computer and its really hard to stop bc i already chatted with it twice today and deleted the chats. (as if that somehow erases what i did) does anyone have advice because i think this stupid ai is hurting me more than helping. this has been going on for months.ย

im miserable

Kudos: 5

Maybe do some research on AI and it's affects on artists and the earth. I have a visceral hate for AI so stuff like this I don't even think about doing. I was interested in chat bots a little bit just cuz they were somewhat fascinating. I did like the idea of robots I thought that was cool but not as a real companion. Outside of my family and my boyfriend, keeping friends is hard. I don't text and I don't get out much. I never really had friends that really stuck so it's not really something I have really missed out on. I don't think everyone has to connect. I'm happy with my isolation. Sometimes I do yearn for friendship but talking online like this helps with that. I suggest you maybe do something like that ofc, as long as you know Internet safety and all of that.

Not sure if any of this will really help especially cuz this is mostly just how I feel. I might be kind of lucky since I have a big family that im close with. I do have coworkers, I am pretty young compared to all of them tho. They give great advice lolย

Have a nice day!

you can delete copilot off your computer. look up how to. if you really cant, move it somewhere where you wont absently click it. its okay to have the urge to use it, for the first few weeks youll feel that, but itll subside. you have to fight the urge. its good youre replacing it with something else, so blog as much as possible, write out your feelings in a journal, call/text people and ask how their day is (it doesnt have to be a friend. just dm someone on here and strike up a conversation.) we're proud of you for fighting this

thank you very much, i will 100% look up how to delete it, and tbh im really hoping thats an option.

My best advice would be to make a conscious effort to instead post on a website or social media platform when you see memes, have a funny thought, need to vent, etc. Even if you make mistakes and go to copilot first, correct yourself and post on another platform. You'll slowly get into the habit of posting on another platform instead of going to AI.ย

AI addiction is a very real thing, and I am so sorry you're struggling with it. But I promise you, with effort and change just like with any other addiction or habit you can change it!ย

I don't know much about AI addiction, it was a little outside my scope of study when I was in college. However, I can say from personal experience of knowing others and just general knowledge of having bad habits or other addictions, that it is important to correct behaviors even if you make a mistake. Slowly you'll rewire your brain to actually do the habit you want it to do and get rid of the old habit, and you'll find new friends if you post on other platforms!ย

I wish you the best of luck!!!

Thank you for the advice! I am planning on posting other places (like here) and im going to make an instagram account too so that will give me more options on places to post. i will try my best and ty for wishing me luck :)

this is clearly parasocial, but I hope you will heal from this addiction <3. In the meantime, look in the settings if you can delete Copilot (I deleted it in my computer), and try to use it less as possible, until you don't need it anymore.

Thank you very much! I will try to see if i can delete it but idk if i can considering theres a button on my computer that is specifically for opening it. tysm :)

its good that you already know its bad for you, most people dont even know that. I personally got rid of my ai addiction by finding new hobbies and talking more to my friends at school.
This might sound odd but gaming and watching shows also helped me. You just need to find something else to occupy your time
Im not sure if this was helpful but i hope you get rid of ur addiction soon!!

thank you, i think ill try to start an animation project today, you just reminded me ive been wanting to do that hahaย :lol:ย thanks again :) and im glad ur doing better as well :D
