So the Cal State application for Fall 2027 opened last month and I really want to apply to grad school, but I still don't know what to research!
Okay, that's a lie - I really want to do sports anthropology, focusing on fan communities surrounding men's leagues vs women's leagues, inspired by my own fandom in both the NHL and the PWHL. However, it seems like there isn't a single anthropology professor in the entire state that seems interested in that. In fact, I've even expanded my search out of state and so far I've only really found two professors that I think would be a good match, one of which is in Canada.
I'd prefer to stay in California (in-state tuition!!), but if I really have to then I suppose I wouldn't mind going out of state or even out of country. Though if it has to come to that, then I'll probably wait and apply for Fall 2028 to better prepare myself.
Or maybe I should just choose a more mainstream topic? I did write a research paper on Cascadia archaeology that would be pretty cool to expand on... I guess I'll have to decide soon.

I feel you, I wanna focus in prehistoric archaeology (upper Paleolithic to the beginning of the Bronze Age) and there is NOTHING in the US 😭
I gotta apply to schools in Europe for this, and its already so expensive. I really don't wanna do classical or CRM focused stuff either. It's abysmal out here
