Welcoming semester 08/09/2026

In my country, university “welcoming week” somehow takes months to finish. I’m currently a freshman law student, and ours lasts around three whole months AKA a full semester.  Apparently, it’s supposed to help freshmen adjust from high school to university life, which I understand, but three months feels excessive.

Universities here also usually don’t provide dormitories, so students have to find their own housing and the city infrastructure isn’t great either, with barely any proper sidewalks or crossings, so I often have to rely on Gojek, basically Uber but with motorcycles. It’s cheap per ride, but the cost adds up really fast and not counting food money.

And for some reason there’s homework for the welcoming week???. After almost every event, there’s another assignment, evaluation, or requirement to submit. I’m genuinely sick of it. What makes it worse is that I can’t even complain freely online. The last time I complained on Twitter, some seniors noticed and now I feel like I’m being targeted for criticizing the event?? sensitive asf man, genuinely childish

Like, I’m in university. I paid millions to be here for a degree, so why am I spending this much time doing work that isn’t even assigned by my professors. At this point, it just feels exhausting, expensive, and honestly like a waste of my time.
