“alternative” as a trend

buying cool clothes is so expensive and exhausting because fast fashion has ruined everything… over that, “alt” is becoming a trend, and shops sell said readymade “alt” clothes, stripping away the entire point of alternative fashion

so many girls put on white foundation and the tiniest bit of eyeliner, wear black clothes, straighten their hair and call themselves “goth”, without even understanding the subculture, and say “fuck society” meaninglessly… not to mention that they sexualise gothic people. disgusting.

emo has been reduced to sad people wearing black clothes and listening to rock music. since when??? jokes are understandable, however it’s becoming such a stereotype.

punks are disappearing when we need them the most.

overall, “goths” are becoming sexualised, “emos” are people to be mocked and bullied, “scene” is just screaming music and bright hair, and “punk” is used as a derogatory term. what have we come to?

the very term that meant going against social norms is slowly becoming painfully mainstream.

I think alt is becoming this because people desperately want to feel "unique". They want to seem deep, so they LARP as someone they're not. Go up to any alt-dressed person on the street and ask about their political views, and they'll say, "I don't really care much about politics." Like, what. I'm not alt myself, but I think it's less people trend-hopping and more about wanting to stick out.

ikr, its so much about politics and people just think its about looking “cool”…

and yes its about sticking about, not adhering to social norms… but its also for people who are already considered “outcasts” in society. mainstream people who are popular at school and stuff try to be “alt” when they’d act bully an alt person if they ever encountered one. its honestly sad.

I especially agree with the sexualization of goths. I dont think theres anything wrong with wanting a partner that is a part of a certain community but the word has been made into a sort of dogwhistle for sexual content. I think it's creepy and dehumanizing. I am not goth myself but i think them (anyone really with this situation) deserve much more respect.

exactly!! its disrespectful to the subculture too, because people will want “goth” gfs/bfs just for looks, but if they really know what goth people stand for and represent, it’ll probably be an instant turndown (i love goths theyre sooo nice❤️❤️)
