"Performative activism" has always been a term but it's only recently been getting used this frequently during this presidency and after that "The friend whos overly woke" meme started. Convenient timing. Always thought that dumbass meme was a fed post but I'm called a "conspiracy theorist".

I'm a little confused by this post (luv the layout)
I seen a lot of people be "performative activist" there were others that yelled at people online to "boycott Amazon" but next week they would show stuff that they brought from Amazon??? People would call others gullible, weak-minded, or talk to them like their dumb because they aren't boycotting something??? People who do this don't even donate to help the families who are going through wars don't even get me started on how they never protest.
"Performative activism" is anti activism propaganda.
Contrary to popular belief, advocating for these issues does not give someone as much social gain as you may think.
Because of terms like "Performative activism" people think lesser of those who advocate. The term "Performative activism" creates infighting between people who are advocating for the same issues. Getting distracted from the cause itself.
Irl most people get by easier when saying nothing so alot of these posts towards social issues are coming from a place of genuine care.
There should be a focus of helping eachother find more effective ways of spreading the cause then calling eachother performative.
That's what I meant from my post. Calling or getting called a "Performative activist" is ignoring the actual issue(let's sat genocide) and instead of focusing on the genocide, focusing on who is and isn't a "poser" and making the situation worse because now people are scared to be seen as "overly woke" or "Performative" that they don't say anything at all. And guess what? The people in charge WANT YOU divided, WANT YOU to ignore the issue. You are a fish who took the bait.
