Buy, Borrow, or Burn?

As a reader, my bookshelf is a bit of a chaotic mix. One week I’m reading dark fantasy, the next a contemporary romance, and the next a heartwarming story about family. Today, I’m putting three very different books into the ultimate rapid-fire review test: Buy (worth spending your hard-earned money on a physical copy), Borrow (great for a library trip or e-reader download), or Burn (skip it entirely).
Here is my honest breakdown of The Cruel Prince, If You’re Not the One, and Wish.
  • The Genre: Young Adult Dark Fantasy /  (THE BUY) ( the cruel prince)
  • The Vibe: Sharp blades, political schemers, and faeries who will absolute ruin your life.
  • Why it’s a BUY: If you are tired of sparkly, sweet fairy tales, The Cruel Prince is a masterpiece of dark fantasy. Jude is a mortal girl trying to survive in a brutal royal court where the fey despise humans. The tension between her and the arrogant Prince Cardan is legendary. It’s angsty, clever, and the kind of book you want sitting proudly on your shelf so you can flip back to your favorite annotated pages The BORROW: "If You’re Not the One" by Jemma Forte
    • The Genre: Contemporary Romance / Chick Lit
    • The Vibe: "What if?" alternate realities, relationship nostalgia, and mid-life introspection.
    • Why it’s a BORROW: Have you ever wondered what your life would look like if you had stayed with your college ex or that summer fling? When the main character, Jennifer, lands in a coma, she gets to live out four distinct parallel paths of her life based on the men she loved. On Goodreads, it's celebrated as a wonderfully unique, easy-to-read romance. It is the perfect book to check out from the library for a cozy weekend read or a vacation getaway The BURN: "Wish" by Barbara O'Connor
      • The Genre: Middle-Grade Contemporary Fiction
      • The Vibe: Small-town Southern living, a stray dog, and a young girl finding unexpected family.
      • Why it's a BURN (with a twist!): Disclaimer: I don't actually want to set fire to this beautiful story! But in the strict rules of this game, Wish gets the "burn" slot simply because it targets a much younger, middle-grade audience. It follows 11-year-old Charlie Reese as she navigates life with a complicated family situation, a skinny stray dog named Wishbone, and a neighbor boy who changes her perspective. While it is a deeply touching New York Times bestseller, it might be a skip if you're strictly looking for mature, high-stakes adult or YA drama                            Chat With Me!
Have you read any of these three? Do you agree with my placements, or would you swap The Cruel Princeand If You're Not the One? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
