Meta Glasses: "You do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in public"

That's the defense that we usually hear when it comes to filming with Meta glasses in public

But there is a huge difference between passing human glances and permanent surveillance.

Yes, you can legally look at anyone on a public sidewalk, but Meta glasses exploit this loophole to justify constant, passive recording in a way that perverts the law

Meta glasses turn public spaces/views into private property on a personal hardrive.. and with AI, creeps can do whatever they want with the content. Those strangers can upload the videos of us to the cloud, share it, or keep it forever.

We are no longer just existing in the public space. Our image is being extracted and mined and converted into private property without our consent

Just because the law needs to catch up, doesn't mean we need to accept this socially!:grr:

How do they justify privacy invasion in private property, though? By the way, there's an app called Nearby Glasses that lets you scan for meta glasses using your android phone or tablet.

This is somewhat true yes but people film publicly all the time I mean if it was private property than yeah it can be illegal, but this post should be more on what flock does and U.S based companies do, know your customer shit should be illegal they do not need to know everything about you.

This is so real. I am incredibly scared of AI deepfakes and even just being seen sexually and the idea of someone being able to record me and do whatever with the recording creeps me out so bad. I only got over my fear of phone cameras this year, meta glasses are a whole other thing.. especially because everyone has a phone, but it’s THAT type of person that gets meta glasses. Very suspicious and predatory imo.

I just looked this up:
"Approximately 65% to 74% of Meta smart glasses buyers and owners are male, while female adoption remains significantly lower"

Of course it's the guys! Because women actually realize it's important for the other person to consent being filmed even if the law doesn't require it

If you say filming in public places is illegal than any cctv cameras would also become illegal. Ring doorbells would become illegal since they can film past your property. Taking pictures of nature would be illegal.

Good point! But none of those involve secrecy as much as meta glasses do they?

What makes Meta glasses weird is that you'd be filming things that you technically don't have a real reason to film (i.e. the barista as you order a drink, someone you stopped to ask for directions etc etc)

All the ones you listed involve reasonable justifications to record

The POV aspect of Meta glasses is what makes it creepy for people on the other end

Well inside a private business isn't really a public space. I mean it kinda is? but they can ask you to leave for filming. Outside though there is no expectation of privacy and no laws that can prevent filming.
