90% of “hot takes” are common sense

Most of what people call a "hot take" these days isn't hot at all, it’s just basic common sense or just a widely accepted mainstream opinion. Or just good takes in general are just peoole saying the obvious, like “fuck trump” or “government is bad” or blah blah blah. Like no shit Stacy ICE is bad, my little sister could tell me that and shes ten.

Though, forming your own original thought is hard. It takes time, critical thinking, and actual effort. Instead, most people just absorb pre-packaged opinions while scrolling through social media, adopting stances that aren't even theirs. True originality requires defining your own metrics rather than just reacting to what everyone else is saying.

But you have to remember, stating a universally agreed-upon moral or political stance isn't a brave or original perspective. Saying a terrible thing is terrible isn't a "take", it's just human decency. People often frame these obvious statements as controversial just to get easy validation from their echo chambers.

On the rare occasion someone actually shares a genuinely unorthodox opinion, the internet usually splits into two groups. Those who disagree are usually because,

A. They lack the critical thinking skills to handle a different viewpoint or articulate their own.

B. They completely miss the actual point of the argument.

And (or) C. They choose to stay deliberately ignorant.

Ultimately, this happens because people are terrified of standing out. It’s comfortable to hide inside a predictable, easily controlled group identity. But the second someone steps outside of those boundaries and shares a nuanced, individual thought, they break the mold. Since people can no longer easily label or categorize them, they get uncomfortable and that discomfort quickly turns into hostility and hate.

Wow you couldn't have said it better. Everyone's opinions now are just handy downs from other peoples. And people who have an original thought that isn't from everyone one else are being "performative". Its genuinely frustrating.

But generally humans gravitate towards the majority vote, or collective thinking. Because its "safe" and you won't be outvoted for being "different". and its only gotten worse with social media.

I do somewhat agree, but we have to remember that ppl still live within places that are more right wing then others. When we live in a echo chamber/bubble for so long we forget that left wing views ARE controversial. Trump literally won the popular vote, the majority of people DID vote for him. What does that tell you about that state of our country.

Left wing views might be more popular online, but even thats a warped view due to the algorithm.

It's funny that you think views on ICE and Trump are universal truths.  This lack of greater awareness contradicts and undermines your entire point.  Should've used better examples.

Fair point to be honest.

Trump and ICE are definitely polarizing topics nationally, so calling views on them universal was a bad choice of words on my part.

A better example would’ve been something genuinely universally agreed on, like kicking puppies is bad.

But the core point still stands: the internet loves to produce obvious baseline stances for easy validation.

Yep, kicking puppies is definitely bad, universally. I can stand behind that. xP

Most people just post things to receive agreement or praise.  That's likely why these generic "hot takes" come up a lot.

I absolutely agree with this. Most people make normal human decency--in my opinion--a "hot take" such as being pro-choice or being against trump and his stupid cult following because they believe it's considered taboo. Making something that is just categorized in being an actually good and educated human being suddenly a controversial opinion is stupid and it's harmful. The debate of "hey, trump sucks" shouldn't even be a debate in the first place and should stay far, far out of reach of some dickhead popular Americans trying to be edgy and cool and instead go out to the individuals who actually agree with it. A vast majority of the people saying these are controversial don't even know what the fuck they're talking about.

TL/DR: The reason a majority of "hot takes" aren't actually hot takes anymore are because it's becoming trendy to hop on the internet and post something that people are spamming as controversial since folks are stupid and want a say in anything that isn't what society considers "the norm" so they can act as if they aren't the exact demographic that these beliefs and opinions go against.

HOPEFULLY THIS MADE SENSE.

I agree I've definitely seen hot takes that were just "hot take but he government is bad" like yep thanks for pointing that out you are doing the lord's work. Honestly though I've definitely have laced basic things on my bulletin on spacehey as hot take despite them not really being much of a hit take because I just have no idea what to label my thoughts (^_^;). Some hot takes are just the same thing repeated over and over again it makes me wonder if people ever learnt what hot takes are and now what they are talking about. Sometimes people hit takes are also straight up bigotry and that is insane (・.・).

I couldn`t agree more, i used to get so mad at peoples hot takes a long time ago because another opinion sounded so vulgar to me but now that theyre gone and everone has the same thoughts, I miss them.
