People who were bullied growing up, and people who weren’t.
They move through life completely differently.
People who were never bullied usually have this natural ease about them. Like a built‑in comfort with themselves. They don’t second‑guess how they talk, how they walk, how they laugh, how they dress. They can say something awkward or do something cringy and it barely registers. Nobody ever trained them to scan themselves for flaws, so they don’t.
Then there are the people who were bullied.
They notice everything.
Tone shifts.
Micro‑expressions.
The way someone’s eyes move when they’re judging you.
It’s pattern recognition built from years of being the target.
People who were bullied develop a kind of hyper‑awareness that never fully shuts off. They know when someone is uncomfortable. They know when someone is lying. They know when someone is pretending. They know when someone is about to say something rude before the words even form.
They’ve spent their whole childhood studying people for survival, and that never disappears.
Meanwhile, the people who were never bullied go through life being completely unaware how loud they are, or how weird they can be, or how their behavior lands on others, because nobody ever forced them to.
It’s not their fault. It’s just two different realities.
One group learned to exist without fear. The other learned to exist by anticipating it.
And somehow, both groups think they’re living in the same world.

I feel like as adults we're all trying to work backwards to make sense of who we are now. I've definitely noticed I analyze social situations different than a lot of people, but couldn't possible know if that's the result of bullying, or if the bullying was a result of me being different to begin with.
I get that. A lot of us end up trying to understand ourselves. And noticing social situations differently doesn’t automatically point to one reason. Sometimes it’s just how your brain works 💕

❥ Didn’t mean to make you cry, but I understand why it did. That experience sticks with people. ✦

I hear you. Being that aware all the time can make simple things feel way more stressful than they should be.
