The Goldfinch & Fandom Mischaracterization

HEY! Do you like reading? I do, a lot. M'kay, hook's done; anyways, I just wanted to talk about (shocker unless you haven't read the subject of my post) The Goldfinch! Specifically, how the movie (rip Donna) has clouded many people's perspectives on the source material, left out crazy key details, and even changed basically all of the characters altogether! Also, spoiler warning. just to, y'know, throw that in here.

So, one thing about this novel which I quite enjoyed, is that literally everyone SUCKS. For example, Boris is a total jerk and I hate his guts, Theo needs to lock the hell in (truth nuke leave my goat Pippa alone), everyone's parents are SO much more messed up than they're made out to be in the movie. I don't know, man. I guess I just like reading morally gray characters, or something. And, sorry, but unless my memory is deceiving me for I haven't read it over in a few months, are we forgetting that Boreo isn't the main focus of the book like many of the movie fans make it out to be? 

HOLD ON NOW. I'm not saying I don't like Boreo, okay? I love Boreo. I'm probably one of the gayest dudes you'll ever meet in your life (shout out to my boyfriend I love you). Boreo is what's up. Also, absolutely NO hate at all to movie fans. If you mess with The Goldfinch, you mess with The Goldfinch. We're siblings. Just a word of advice, though; READ THE BOOK. Not only will SO many plotholes of the movie be filled, it's just a good book in general. Plus, going back to Boreo, there's much more content about them. HOWEVER, back to my original topic.

The Goldfinch is a long ass book, right? And that book is filled to the brim with the ghost of Theo's guilt which stems from losing his mother. She is always there, which is understandable to a certain extent because what happened to them was a terrifying and cruel thing no child should ever have to see, let alone experience firsthand. He turns a corner? I walked over here with my mom once. Pippa? He's obsessing over her because she's one of the people that was there on the dreadful day she died (it's not fate, dude, you have trauma you need to unpack ASAP + I know what you are). Theo is a deeply troubled man, and we're literally reading the story of his life. Theo is the main character, yet somehow, he's underrated in his own book all because a shitty movie adaption decided to pluck out Finn Wolfhard to play his watered-down dork of a "best friend." I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE OH MY GOD

Anyways, yap alert. I resonate with Theo to a certain extent which is probably why I'm dogging on Boris so hard because what else do best friends do /j
