Female characters in Turning(BL novel by Kuyu)

I love how the female characters in turning—such as, Hinn, Kanna, and Ever—actually have their own personalities and don't revolve around the male characters. They're also not completely sidelined or demonized just for the main couple.

It's unfortunately not as common as I'd like, for the women in BL manhwa or Novels to have interesting personalities. They have their own goals, beliefs and values that DON'T revolve around the men. And I love it. Especially when it comes to perspective switches, because I don't get bored immediately.

Turning also doesn't completely demonize the women. In a lot of BL the female characters are used as antagonistic side characters. Simply to push forward the main couple. They're usually a girl who had a crush on one of the guys, an ex, or simply a homophobic person. Sometimes they're the girl best friend, and thats it, no actual personality aside from that.

But I like how in turning, all the female characters have a story, engaging and rather good ones too. For example, even though Hinn is twins with Finn and they're often put together for mission and their teleportation powers are stronger together, she doesn't completely revolve around him. Hinn is strong on her own, and her personality is not a complete copy of Finn's.

And for Kanna, even though she got into the cavalry thanks to Yuder's help, she doesn't leech off him or is simply a "yes" girl. She reprimands him and scolds him when needed, she wants to become stronger with her powers and it's not just to pay back Yuder for all his help. The story also doesn't toss her aside after a few chapter, she's an extremely important, and smart character.

Finally, Ever. I love Ever. She's very independent and strong, physically and emotionally. She doesn't let one mistake knock her down, neither does she let people walk over her. And when Pruelle gets introduced as a sort of love interest for her, the story doesn't make her revolve around him. In fact, she doesn't even realize Elle's crush on her. Ever puts her focus into her attention and time to her job as a deputy commander. Thats not to say she's a workaholic, though. She's also no insensitive, either.

Anyway, I love how the female characters in Turning are written! We need more BL manhwa/novels to actually write 3D female characters. Unfortunately misogyny is very prevalent in BL works, even though most of the authors of said works are women 💔
