Frost at midnight - first stanza

Coleridge in this poem, is trying to express his thoughts on nature and humanity. The incorporation of silence adds to the lonely feel; forcing the reader to sit witness in an eerie ambiance. The envy a man can feel towards his own child seeps through the pages like ink, leaving a permanent scar. Envy of a peaceful slumber, worry free and unburdened by life. Only a father could see that and love his babe with no prejudice or resentment.
