shes been showing signs for a year or two, but within the last month-ish shes gotten to the point where she no longer recognizes her husband/my grandpa. she remembers him but cant connect the dots between the "nice but weird old man" in her house and the young man she married, she gets very worried that she doesnt know where he is. she refuses to sleep in the same room as him and is very paranoid in general. she recognizes or at least trusts other family members both in person and over the phone- she remembered me and plenty about where im at in life right now when i called her the other day, but...i dont think she has much time left before she's truly gone. it's just sad and scary for everyone.
before hanging up the phone the other day, her voice suddenly got very quiet and gentle and she said "take care of yourself, remember that." it felt like she recognized she's struggling, and wanted to tell me that before she wasn't able to anymore. idk. i dont have the strongest sense of family bonds but it made me tear up. she told me she loved me about 10 times before ending the call ;-;
she is such a lovely woman. kind and caring, but also witty and sarcastic. she always has something funny to say, and ill never forget all the times weve spent gossiping and giggling together at family get-togethers. i hope she still remembers me when i see them later this year, ill try to make it count.
i dont really know how to end this, i just wanted to talk about it somewhere.
