growing up (tourist trap in new york city)

i try to remind myself that in my mere seventeen years of life that it is okay to not be ready, i do not take anything i have for granted and i hold everything dear to me. growing up is not linear and i know i am taking much bigger steps than those around me, one day those steps will turn into leaps and the rush of feathered wings as my feet leave the ground. ill budget my time for leisure, gas and responsibility and watch you waste yours away on xanax and dopamine to coat your tongue. ill have the PHD of the mind and you'll have the dogwood diploma of missed potential, though you'll wish our roles were reversed. i may be unsure of what the universe holds for me, but at least ill move forward in that uncomfortableness, unlike you standing still as if you were a tourist trap in new york city. growing up is an honorable mention in the minds of the ones who matter most.
