YES, this is a real day. August 15th is National Relaxation Day. So to honor this extremely important day, I created a little story about a woman who said "nope" to her phone and her responsibilties, for just one day. Enjoy!
Violet Harrison woke up with a list so long it could have wrapped around the block twice. Laundry. Dishes. Mopping. Errands. Emails. Calls. Cooking. All of it waiting like a crowd of impatient toddlers tapping their feet.
But today was National Relaxation Day. And Violet, standing barefoot in her quiet kitchen, decided she was going to honor it properly.
She turned off her phone. Not silent mode. Not do‑not‑disturb. Off. Face‑down on the table like a misbehaving child put in time‑out.
Then she packed her beach bag.
Sunscreen. Water bottle. Big floppy hat. Towel. Light snacks. And—because no perfect day was complete without him—Cookie’s leash.
Cookie, her King Charles spaniel, pranced in delighted circles as if he’d been waiting all week for this exact moment. His ears bounced. His tail wagged like a metronome set to “joy.”
Violet locked the door behind them, leaving the chores to sulk in the quiet house. The world could go hang. Today belonged to her.
The drive to the beach felt like shedding layers. By the time she stepped onto the warm sand, she felt lighter, softer, almost new.
She spread her towel. Cookie immediately claimed half of it. She laughed, put on her hat, and stretched out with a sigh that came from somewhere deep.
The waves rolled in. Cookie curled beside her, warm and content. The sun kissed her shoulders. And for the first time in weeks, Violet didn’t think about anything she “should” be doing.
She just breathed. She just existed. She just relaxed.
National Relaxation Day: fully honored.
