Helping out at my local allotment!

Hii!

Lately I've been helping out at my local allotment while I'm back in my home town during the summer. For those that don't know what I mean by allotment, it's a community garden / vegetable patch, where members of the community can come and grow stuff! 

My local allotment is pretty small, so it's just me and a few others. I'm mainly helping out this guy who I'll call S, on Wednesdays. I'm finding helping S really interesting because he's super knowledgeable about the plants and the compost and some of the science and reasoning behind the things we're doing. And learning about this stuff while doing the work with my hands is helping me with my learning around botany, which I've been quite interested in for a while (ever since we had a guest lecturer in on one of my modules in university, who spoke about forensic botany :3).

Like, I've gotten better with my plant ID skills, especially with some plants that I know the uses of (like; mints, lemon balm, rosemary, cherry, mulberry, etc), and gaining knowledge around different ways of making compost, how the rock in the area impacts the kind of soil we have, etc. I'm hoping that gaining more knowledge around all these different, yet relevant, areas will give me more context while I attempt to learn more about botany and ecology (And later some of the forensic applications of these things).
