how can i convince my mom to let me get locs?

so ive been thinking about this for a while now and i want to get my hair done soon. well i have to anyways because my grandparents are coming up soon and my mom wants me to look decent when they come. i have no problem with that i want a new look anyways. problem is my mom won't let me get locs because she thinks it looks bad or ugly. but to me it's not i think it looks nice when you know how to style it and everything. plus it's my natural hair too.

 when i told my mom how i want locs before she got upset with me and said, "oh you wanna look just like your dad then??" for context he got locs and grew out his hair like im not trying to look like him im tryna to just look like me yk? not anybody else which i told her that but she still didn't like the fact i want to get locs.

 im genuinely tired of having to get my hair either braided or permed because with braids it last for a little bit and then you gotta take them out and with perm i feel like it's just damaging my hair instead. so i want to give locs a chance. right now my hair is like 3-4 inches long in length i think i have enough hair to start starter locs cause rn my hair is a thick short afro ever since i cut it and did a big chop last year ive been tryna grow it out as much as i can. 

for anyone who has locs or anyone that's a poc how can i convince my mom to let me get locs and should i go with a middle part or without? because again my hair is pretty thick and while i like how clean it looks with a middle part i also like how it looks without a middle part the only issue would be that the hair would be in my face but that's not rlly much of a problem for me because i look chopped anyways and uh idk i just don't want it to be ig like heavy on me yk? because of the weight of the locs so im not exactly too sure what to do. if anyone knows please let me know what i should do here.
