Personally, what I did was take the political and ethical beliefs I had grown up with, most of which came from my family, and start questioning them. Instead of assuming they were right just because they were familiar, I tried to understand where those ideas came from, what they actually meant, and how they had changed throughout history. A lot of beliefs sound obvious until you dig into their origins and realize they've been interpreted in completely different ways over time.

I also think it's really important to learn about the history of your own country. Politics doesn't exist in a vacuum, and most current debates only make sense once you understand the historical context behind them. Read about major events, social movements, economic crises, elections, and the decisions that shaped the place you live. Even if history isn't your favorite subject, it helps you recognize why people hold the opinions they do today.

From there, make an effort to read people you disagree with as well. It's really easy to end up in an echo chamber where every article, video, or post just reinforces what you already believe. That feels comforting, but it doesn't actually teach you much. You don't have to agree with the opposing side, but understanding why they think the way they do is incredibly valuable. Sometimes you'll realize they're wrong, sometimes you'll realize you were wrong, and a lot of the time you'll end up somewhere in the middle.

The biggest thing, though, is to get comfortable with constantly questioning your own beliefs. Don't treat your opinions as part of your identity; treat them as conclusions based on the information you have at the time. If you come across better evidence or a stronger argument, don't be afraid to change your mind.

At the end of the day, becoming politically informed is about staying curious, reading widely, checking your sources, asking yourself "Why do I believe this?" every once in a while, and accepting that your views will probably evolve as you learn more.
