hello friendrewind!! this is going to be a little tutorial on how to make your life seem more like the 2000s, in school and at home!! (and anywhere else too really.) feel free to add your own tips in the comments because i'm definitely missing a lot :DĀ
food/drink category is what i personally associate with the decade, you can really do whatever you want :)
also this is all how i view the decade through my own eyes, it may not be 100% accurate because different countries experience things differently (as someone who's lived and gone to many countries) - this is probably more accurate to Irish/British experiences !!
also these are only some ideas for examples, you can choose your own with a similar vibe!!
2000s:
clothing: obviously this depends on what style you're going for, so i'm gonna lay out a few !! i am by no means an expert on any of these styles, so this might not be 100% accurate!
general/idk what style this fits in: hibiscus prints, layering polos, juicy couture
"older brother core" - self-explanatory really, layering long sleeve with short sleeve and baggy jeans with a belt
emo - low-rise ultra skinny jeans (darker the better), super tight band shirts, studded/grommet belts, half-fingered gloves, converse or vans, zip-ups (for winter), beanies, maybe a ring or two, 2-3 studded/leather bracelets
scene: (i'm gonna be honest this might be scenecore, i'm always confused about those two TwT) , low rise ultra skinny jeans (or flares..?), layered belts, tank tops, off-shoulder tops, graphic tees (specifically like those 2010 ones with mustaches i think a lot of people wear those?), headbands, big necklaces, baseball caps (? i think i might be getting confused with crunkcore if so i'm so sorry), big sunglasses, knee high converse, bracelets, kandi, big glasses
idk about much else styles sorry ;-;
pictures/videos: most camcorders and phone cameras from the 2000s were 3-5 mpx, and a lot of early 2000s images were in 4:3 ratio, and don't record very well in low light (my 2009 camera cannot take photos during or after sunset, they become blurry)
if you want to get a 2000s feel in your videos or images, you should realistically use a laptop webcam, since they tend to be on average 2.1 mpx. if you don't own a laptop, you can easily lower the exposure on your phone camera and lower the fps to 30, also ideally record in a low light. you could also add a sort of "indie kid saturation" on your videos, as at some angles these cameras tend to oversaturate your images by A LOT.
tech: have different devices for everything!! some examples are : camcorder, camera, "dumb" phone, iPod/CD player, DVD player, PSP/XBox/DS, PC
however, these are super expensive TwT,, so here's some ways you can modify the devices you already have!
iPad -> equivalent of a PSP, delete / hide all apps that aren't video games, Do Not Disturb
iPhone -> if you have any old iPhones lying around (iPhone SE and earlier are ideal imo! - not for texting though as pre iPhone 4 can't use 4G networks :( ) you could delete / hide all apps, go on DND and turn it into an iPod! (and/or for calls or camera, ofc !!)Ā
Laptop -> probably the easiest, i saw a blog post on this somwhere (by Jill Kills, i believe), you can modify it to give a 2000s feel, or (i'm not entirely sure how this works, but my dad did it for 3.1) you can emulate an older version of windows, like the 2007 vista or 2009 7!
also watching satellite tv (but tbf, where i am there's never anything good on...)
color pallette: again, depends on style, honestly this doesn't really matter either, but this is what i associate with each style
"older brother core" - dirt pallette and dark colors (browns, greens, blues, beige, deep red)
emo - greyscale, i see maroon alot too
scene - greyscale with a color , say like for example teal and black or purple and black
food/drink: mountain dew, ritz crackers, chips (US English)/crisps (UK English)
movies/tv: satellite TV, American Idol, the Fairly Oddparents, The OC, Glee, Gossip Girl (i don't watch much tv i'm so horrid at this category lmao)
music: honestly idk why i'm giving examples, anything released in the 2000s is fine lol, one of my favorite albums is So Long, Astoria by The Ataris though :))
video games: minecraft, Grand Theft Auto, morrowind, freelancer, Fallout 3, Crackdown, Super Mario Galaxy, deadspace, bioshock
2010s and 2020 your life coming soon ^^
lmk what i should add for those two !! and what i can improve on <3
