I have a crush?

Haven’t written a blog in a while, so here I am again! Nothing much has changed in my academic life, but there’s definitely something new in my love life. 😭💗

There’s this guy I really like, and although it’s somewhat long-distance, I could realistically see him if I wanted to. I’m just incredibly busy with everything going on in my personal life right now. But oh my GOD, he’s so cute. He’s sweet, funny, and a little submissive, which I honestly find pretty attractive. 😭

We were friends for about a year before I started developing feelings for him, which is pretty much how all my relationships start. If we haven’t been friends for at least six months, you probably don’t stand a chance with me. I’m sorry, but I need to know you first! LMAO.

There are a couple of things about him that make me raise an eyebrow, though. He’s pretty religious, specifically Catholic, whereas I used to be Catholic before eventually moving away from the religion. We also share a lot of the same ideologies, which is part of what makes him so interesting to me. However, we do have some differences in perspective that I’ve noticed.

For example, he’s pretty passionate about people learning about their ancestry and cultural history, which I can absolutely appreciate. But sometimes, I feel like he emphasizes the historical suffering of white ethnic groups, particularly the Irish, in ways that risk drawing comparisons that don’t fully account for the differences between historical and present-day oppression.

Yes, the Irish experienced horrific oppression, exploitation, and forms of forced labor throughout history. That history deserves to be acknowledged. But I think there’s a difference between recognizing historical suffering and equating it with the ongoing effects of racial oppression experienced by other groups. Black Americans are still dealing with the legacy of slavery, lynching, and systemic racism, while Chinese and Mexican communities face their own histories of discrimination and, in some cases, present-day immigration enforcement and xenophobia.

I don’t necessarily think he intends to dismiss anyone else’s struggles, but I do think there are certain things he might not fully understand yet. Sometimes, it feels like a matter of perspective and being exposed to experiences outside of his own.

But honestly, aside from that, he seems like a genuinely nice guy. He can be a little insufferable and act like a brat sometimes, but who doesn’t? 😭 Nobody’s perfect, and I’m still figuring out how I feel about everything.

For now, I just know that I like him, I think he’s ridiculously attractive, and I enjoy talking to him. We’ll see where things go. 💗
