I was going to the second floor.

One time in the past, I was going from the second floor to the third floor in an elevator in a library in a town that wasn’t my own. A man hopped in, looked down at my huaraches, and said, “Shoes are a trick from the Man. I wouldn’t wear them, but I have to to come in here.”

I looked down at his sandals. I think they were made of cardboard and yarn the smallest amount of material, I believe, that could still legally qualify as a sandal and gain entry to the library.

I said to him, “My man, they’re not a trick from the Man. I’ve seen a pair of sandals that are 9,000 years old in Fort Rock, Oregon. Unless the Man’s been tricking us for 9,000 years. And by the way, your toenails look amazing. Do you get those professionally done?”

I genuinely wanted to know what he was doing for his pedicure routine his feet looked incredible.

He told me he didn’t want to hear that and started getting very agitated. He began pacing back and forth. I was like, “Okay, dude…”

It was just him and me the only two people in the slowest elevator ever. Oh no. I thought this was fixing to turn south.

He reached into his pocket. Slowly, he pulled out… a pair of socks.

He said, “I don’t give a damn. I ain’t wearing these, no matter what they say.”

I thought to myself, Oh thank goodness. It’s just a pair of socks. I thought, for sure it was a knife and he was fixed to go to town.

Then I said, “Right on. Easy money.”

At that moment, the elevator doors opened. He hopped out, and I thought, Maybe it’s time I invested in some armor, in a stab vest to go under my shirt, maybe.☮︎

That man sounds like he was referring to how man "makes" you wear socks and shoes to go places but to really be grounded and connected to nature we are supposed to be barefoot. It's obviously unsafe to walk around with your feet unprotected in this current world but it sounds like that man had had enough and seeing shoes put him over the edge. It's so mysterious that he was in a library. The whole ordeal fascinates me. I would have also thought too that he was pulling out a weapon because we are bred to live off fear and it's built in us to immediately sense danger. Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks so much for reading my blog. Here's a little more information.  I spend a lot of time in libraries. I go to different libraries kind of all over Texas, and I have a lot to do with libraries in general. Homeless people are definitely part of libraries, especially downtown libraries. This was a homeless man who was doing pretty good. I think he had been belligerent with the staff and didn’t want to wear shoes, so he made himself a pair of cardboard shoes to gain access to the library because he wasn’t gonna let them tell him what to do. Just a little backstory.

why would you need a stab vest if sandals are blunt and deal strike damage? 🤔

Oh yes, I appreciate this question. This gives me a chance to brag a little bit. Yeah, I’m a ninja with a sandal. My grandmother was fast with them too. Quick. She could throw them. Ninja level skill. Eventually, I don’t know if she was slowing down or I was just getting better, but she couldn’t hit me with that sandal anymore, even when she threw it. So I’m not concerned about the sandal. What I am concerned about is somebody pulling out a little knife or something and stabbing me to death in the elevator. I don’t think that’s going to happen, but i do have, the sandal part covered.
