Steaming sweltering sticky
From the humidity

No matter how hard it poured
No matter how many cats and dogs
In Noah's deluge
I think about the rain
How it hide the teardrops
From the gaze of those
Leering from panes of glass
How the thunder drowned out
Your last goodbye
And how lightning stole
The last kiss we could have shared
It could have been mine
If not for fear
In the coming days
When the change was apparent
How I was praised
How we were praised
For outgrowing
The so called phases
The foolishness of youth
The playing around
For adulthood
For white office walls
And white lace veils
And white picket fences
And white delivery rooms
I think about it sometimes
It's been so long
It's the idea more than it is you
It's the feeling
It's the colors than danced in my brain
When you looked at me
And we held hands
As we walked in the park
Or down the road at dusk
As the streetlights came to life
One by one by one
That's what I think of
That then and that forever
And when it rains
On terrible sticky summer days
I look at it with such hatred
Such disdain
As if I can truly assign the blame
For what happened
For what I lost
For this
