I'm wishing I didn't miss out on MySpace

Of course, I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has zero nostalgia for MySpace here. When I first started using the Internet, MySpace was a relic of a forgotten time. It was the premier hub for everything until Facebook happened and we all became slaves to that, and then Twitter happened and so on and so forth blah blah blah. Plus no one really seemed to have good memories of it back then, or at least didn't want to remember them. Was it due to a strict adherence to the old internet dogma of "you have to be absolutely miserable about everything or you're not cool"? Could be. Could be. That would make sense, at least.

Now that I'm using FriendRewind, and now that I'm experiencing a simulacrum of what MySpace was like back in the day, I see that it is not the hellscape that people in 2010-2013 or so pretended it was. It has the key ingredient (of sorts) that most social media websites these days are really, really lacking: an actually welcoming and decent community. At some point in my life I would've much preferred an environment rife with internet bloodsports and the like, but I'm just tired of that, man. Don't get into fights on the internet. It's not productive at all and just wastes everyone else's time.

Speaking of that dogma I mentioned earlier I'm glad we're past that as a society. It was fucking dreadful. Having to pretend you were this hipster with amazing, original opinions on everything and everyone was getting to be really tiring. The few people I've seen that still hold onto that belief are some of the most miserable specimens I've ever witnessed: a bunch of men and women in their early 30s or so who are completely unable to enjoy literally anything or the works of anyone, and whenever they're pressed on this, bring up some incredibly inane reason as to why. 2014 called and they want their depressed Toon Link profile pictures back, ASSHOLES.

Good to be here. I'm hoping my stay is permanent.

Kudos: 5
