immigrant baby

I am a flower in a sidewalk crack

Put here by the salty ocean wind

Bad-posture hunched over back

Mama pats me down with her hand

I am a weed among white roses

Dirty roots, turn away your noses

Big man put me here and said drink up the sun

Because his home was a cage, they said run, run, run

I am browning while they step on me dry

But I've been here since I opened my eyes

Red, white, blue so beautiful they're blind

Red cries of the poor children every night

The white in the eyes of the man limping to his side

Deep dark blue shadows behind people walking by

And they keep going bye, they keep going bye

I am a flower in a sidewalk crack

My old man wished me with warm ocean wind

Bad posture but no broken back

Sad petals on a strong little stem

I am a weed among white roses

My old man said to drink up the sun

They'll kick up your roots, turn away their noses

To sour the sweet smell of jasmine

And I think, how lucky I am to be a flower in the sidewalk

Put here to stay until I'm not

And I'll stay drinking the sun through my brown broken stem

While your cold metal perfectly manufactured beautiful heart can

rot

and yes, love, ICE is colder than a cryogenically frozen heart
