Is this a social red flag?

So when I was like 9, my mother taught me not 2 ever talk 2 my friends about my best friends, or at least not refer 2 dem as such. But I figured out that my mom put quite sum bad things in2 my head so I'd like 2 hear from de cool ppl on friendrewind

Apparently that's rude because that implies u have a friend that is more valuable 2 u than them, and that's degrading.

But say I meet somebody and I talk 2 them 4 three minutes. Basic math it is to know that they cannot be equal 2 a friendship of 9 years. Dat should not make dem offended, rite? And it iz most likely that the person I'm speaking 2 also has better friendz than myself.

Or maybe it's a casual friendship. Maybe we've known eachother for 7 months. But depending on the frequency we see eachother at, how much we share about ourselves and how much we don't and how much we have in common most of the time, people r mutually aware how deep their friendship is. And if I see dis person once every 2 months and we don't have much in common, it's not rude 3 announce the existence of someone who I am closer 2, rite?

I think this rule doesn't make sense because when we have a romantic partner, it's not rude to tell your friend something implicit of "guess what, I know somebody who matters 2 me more than u do, they can commit to passionate acts of love with me and u can't!", aka calling them ur girlfriend/boyfriend/partner. I haven't ever seen someone call their partner a friend. They have a special person, its not u and u gotta deal with it.

Most of the time, weddings r public and u invite half ur friend circle 2 watch u spend what is usually supposed 2 b the most elating day of ur lyf with NOT THEM. And it's normal dey don't git all jelly jealous.

Kudos: 2

she's 50% right and 50% wrong

the right part applies if you either over talk about your best friend like they're the best thing that happened to you or if you share this with a person who can either be really jealous or feel that they mean less to you than said best friend

the wrong is that... it is rare to be jealous of someone for having a best friend. As long as you 2 are still cool, it's all that matters, and most of the time, you treat both your best friend and normal, casual friend with the same amount of respect, with the sole exception that your BF knows you on a more deep, personal and intimate level while being very supportive of you, and most people you'll meet during your lifetime will be chill with you for one reason ot another and maybe... not get that invested in you as much as your BF is

so in conclusion, it's best to share your BF with people you trust and think that will be ok with that fact and still respect you no matter what

it's also important to treat well and respect all of your mates equally, no matter how significant they are/much they mean to you
