Jennifer’s Body (1 of Many)

Jennifer’s Body is much more than a maneater.

Even though Jennifer deserves all the hype she gets, I think her story deserves a more investigative look. AKA: I infer that she has more nuance. Like most female characters.

I’m not the smartest person, so I’ll be brief because I won’t overstay my incapable welcome. Lmao.

Her sacrifice was an allegory for SA. I think that much was obvious. Everyone changes from that shit, so. She survived, and she lives and drags others (primarily men) down so that she can keep going.

She eats men so she can keep living. She isn’t bothered by the loss of life (by their suffering), because she doesn’t see men as human anymore. The “No, I’m killing *boys*” deleted scene is a perfect example. How could she see them as human after what that group of them did to her?

Of course, some guys are different. But it’s clear how her mindset changed to make that thought seem impossible after what happened to her. (And even before the incident, she saw men as single-focused.)

It’s not just her thoughts about guys, it’s her thoughts about everything tragic. Of course she’s desensitized to the people that died in the fire, she had to desensitize herself to what happened to her, and what she had to continue to do to stay alive.

Her getting worse when she doesn’t have someone to eat is an example of how many people need distractions, good or bad, to not linger on what’s happened to themselves. Being horrible to the people/men around you (eating them) is a pretty good distraction that would make you feel better about yourself, yeah? Yeah. And it’s understandable asf.

Anyways. I love Jennifer and Lesnicki and wish them the best (despite being fictional). This was really just me throwing up words on my screen.
