I already posted something similar as a bulletin the other day and I also started this as a blog but wasn't sure how public I wanted to make it but I figured what the heck. So, here goes.
Anyway, as you might have been able to tell from my posted status, I've had a tough week health wise. It started a week ago this past Tuesday around 3:00 pm EDT. I noticed my lower right flank was hurting. I initially chalked that up to laying/sitting on my bed in an awkward position (my whole life I've had a bad habit of laying down or sitting improperly). Though, that turned out to not be the reason for my pain. In short order, I got sick several times. I thought I might have had some kind of food poisoning. By around 5:00 pm, I had enough. So, I asked my 91 year old father to take me to the Emergency Room. That was a feat in and of itself because last September he gave up driving though he still has his driver's license. Note: he didn't give up driving for any medical reason - he gave it up simply because he was tired of his insurance rates going up simply because he's in his 90''s. I'm thankful he's still around and able to take me. How many 62-63 year olds can say they still have their father around?
Long story short, it turned out to be a kidney stone. One of the things I noticed is that very shortly after I gave the ER nurse a urine sample, the pain disappeared. That turned out be a function of the stone moving from the kidney to the beginning of the bladder. Apparently, it's during that stone's movement that causes so much illness and pain. This has all been new to me as I never had a kidney stone before. By Thursday afternoon, the stone passed. So, this past week I've been drinking tons of water (something else I had been notoriously bad at doing) and taking it easy as much as possible.
As an addendum to what was posted in the bulletin, I just wanted to add is that all IĀ am dealing with is some annoying side effects from the prescription I had to help pass the stone. I don't know if I could have stopped taking it once the stone passed, but no one told me stop so, I figure take it until the end. It was 10 days worth of pills and I only have a few left. I see the the Urologist tomorrow, and see what the say about taking that medicine.Ā
