Landfills suck.

Other things my dad is doing that frustrates me today include throwing my old, perfectly good shoes in the garbage, even though the shoe store we go to has a donation box front and center, which he knows about. I don't get why his attitude towards junk in the house flipped over the years. When I was a kid, he sent half my old stuffed animals to Nicaragua, and was so eager to do it that I didn't even get the chance to choose which ones I wanted to keep. He sold that giant sound system we used to have to some other guy without complaint. Now he can't even donate old shoes and hats, all that has to go right to the landfill? When I think of all the perfectly good items he's thrown away over the years, it gets aggravating.

The one that will always anger me the most is he sent our PERFECTLY FUNCTIONAL Nintendo Wii to the recycling center, where they presumably yanked out like two feet of copper wire and sent the rest to a landfill. I told him he could've just sold it and easily gotten $70, but he "would rather not have it laying around". YOU'LL SELL THOSE GIANT ASS SPEAKERS THAT YOU HAD A MUCH HARDER TIME FINDING A BUYER FOR, BUT NOT A SIMPLE OLD GAME CONSOLE? Now THAT was a fucking waste, a waste compounded by all the secondhand Wiis I see in thrift shops. Got all these old remotes and games laying around with no console. if my twin brother didn't claim the old PS4, you can bet your britches that would've gone to the same recycling center this year.

And it's almost never HIS stuff that goes to the garbage, either. HIS old hats and shoes are still laying around. HIS old microwave is still sitting in the basement. We still have all those old model rockets we can't launch anymore because the hobby store that sold the engines closed years ago, but he was so quick to throw away the one I rescued from a lake because it was "useless". The biggest thing of his he's gotten rid of recently was his old CD player. If he wants to get rid of everything he deems junk, why doesn't he give up more of his OWN junk? He doesn't even have to send it to the landfill. Savers will accept basically anything you can fit in a shopping cart. People are always coming by and picking up things people leave on the curb. I really wouldn't have a problem with his spring cleanings if it wasn't just sending everything straight to the landfill to rot. When it's things someone else could readily use again, it just feels like such a waste...
