It's lonely out there, in space. It's what draws me back to Earth. Not too close, but I want to see what I'm missing. I need to. All the lights in all the cities at night, and the ancient ocean, still as always. Earth seems so alive to me. From our moon, I watch and nap as my birthplace does its dance between contrasts. It doesn't perform for anyone so I love it. It doesn't perform for me. It's graceful as is. Blind, deaf, mute, it speaks to me in all the ways no person ever could. It's my kin.
I watch afar but the pain is great; not close enough, not far enough. I suppose I'm just waiting for something to happen. I don't think anything will take place, maybe it's just hope. I let time pass, I think, I daydream, throwing questions and fetching answers.
I sit in my crater on Luna and watch Sol bleach a crescent across the horizon as it sets. Sometimes the Earth eclipses the sun, creating a spectacle of blistered red and searing orange. Earth, beguiled and black, becomes a nothing with an inviting corona. It feels like I can float forever into it and never find light again. Every time I think that and every time the sun pops out, wrapping its light around the planet just to whip my eyelids right back open. Awake.
I go to sit in the shade on the far side of my crater.
