I get and understand that it gets "cliche" after a while, but at the same time, people complain about the MC not being good or interesting enough. Can we just stick to one or another?

I don't think I ever truly understood the annoyance people had with the main character/s of anything seemed so different in comparison to everyone else. When they're not just any other character. Not like everyone else. They're called the Main Character for a reason, no? There's got to be something different or interesting about them that sets them apart from everyone else. Whether that be more clear and outstanding like something seemingly impossible, or just a difference in hobby.
