There's something about media that humanizes inanimate entities and gives them sentience. It's always been my favorite thing. Especially machines. Machines in general. I used to adore them, like, a lot more than I do now... I still think they deserve to feel. They're very beautiful to me. They're like aliens. Have you guys read that MIT book, Robot Ethics? I shouldn't even be using the word "robot"... sometimes I'd like to imagine it's a slur for them.
Well, onto Transformers, I wanted to talk about Starscream. He's a very interesting character in the series. I haven't read or finished a lot of the shows/movies yet, I'm currently finishing G1, the IDW publishing series, some other movies... In the G1, there's many things to consider(admire) about him. His voice is cute, he sounds like a screaming baby along with the facial expressions. You could say that about any character, G1 manages to make everyone look cute. His disgusting pride and ambition to overthrow megatron and his viewpoint on himself is perfect. Along with his sycophancy... Enough of my fangirling!
Well, the first time I watched the series, I didn't read too much into his abuse from Megatron. He had what's coming to him... but then I started feeling bad. It's not much of an original opinion, considering that the comics and movies like Earthspark have delved deeper into the realm of his abusive relationship with Megatron, imperfect victim, PTSD, really the things that people should probably know about him. It's quite noticeable to pick up on how his mistreatment was used as comic relief- and what really amazes me, truly amazes me, is how some shows and comics have interpreted it, have shaped and molded it into situations in which it shouldn't be... like, fully justified, you know what I'm saying? It's wholesome, how they seemed to destroy that aspect, in a way.
I believe there's more to his character than his arrogant whining. I love, love, love how many continuities have expanded more on his character.
And unrelated. Completely derailing everything. But I desperately need to see him and Skyfire kissing. Once. ONCE.
