to set the scene its 9:30 am my first lecture of the day; I have 3 more classes that last all day. We are nearing the end of class, and he puts on a video... that video will give you chills or bring you to tears, somehow make you physically sick, and then bro is just like, "OKAY, that's the end of class, see you on Thursday !!" all chipper and shit. He is genuinely the sweetest guy. BUT he really needs to chill out with these disturbing videos. I get it. I really don't mind watching them. History is uncomfortable, and it must be addressed. But they are mad triggering, and he can't read the room *sobbing**
For example, last week we watched a video about Hiroshima and the Tokyo air raids. This video was really graphic, and it had sad/dramatic music playing in the background. My eyes actually teared up a bit. As soon as the clip was over, we went straight to discussing another topic. He asked ME first to explain myself about a homework discussion question that I legit forgot I even asked. Just immediately put on the spot, still trying to process what I JUST watched.
YESTERDAY we were having a discussion. It was pretty heavy too. If you aren't familiar with the Red Guards, they were a group of often violent revolutionaries during the leadership of Mao Zedong. To simplify the debate, the question was "were they victims of indoctrination or villains with free will?" I chose to center myself in this discussion, but most of my classmates answered that they have free will and their actions were not justified. My professor then played a clip of a man that litteraly snitched on his mom and had her murdered by the Red Guards because she denounced Mao. They buried her in the backyard, and he was so full of regret. The man was showing his family pictures and crying. Then the professor was like, "Enjoy the rest of your day!!" bro how can I?? I'M DEEPLY unsettled right now!!

this sounds like psychological warfare god damn
couldnt you write/talk to him to bring the topic to his attention....? maybe he's just too used to showing them during classes to realise that those kinds of videos might be too heavy to digest for some students.
Han.
Im guessing your professor is used to that stuff, but oh my god
Sure, he may be a sweet person, as you stated, but I think he needs to know his students are human beings with a beating heart..
Like, sure, history is disgusting, but that does not mean he gotta pull out videos like that
SOMEBODY gotta tell him.
