"Myspace owners announcing a comeback being planned!"
Well, that's fabulous! Followed by alot of people saying they don't understand why everyone left myspace for Facebook to begin with. Usually the younger crowd just getting the idea of non algorithm social media which is all new to most of them, but also from their parents generation. So some may have forgotten WHY everyone left Myspace. Well there was a few reasons. Those of an older generation to Gen X were seriously overstimulated with our pages, I mean really who wasn't colleting an insane amount of graphics? It was kind of the point but alot of pages were ALOT with graphic heavy traffic which would probably be similar to trying to go to webpages from Pinterest now. There so many adds you can't find a darn thing without an ad blocker. (Turn that darn radio down, its hurting my eyes! Damn kids!) However, add blockers were not the norm then and most people did not have them. Pinterest was new and ads were still small to try and make a little ice cream money for the end of the week, not a living. IYKYK. So when Facebook came along initially with its clean webpages and minimal graphics, those that were over the graphic overkill left swiftly. A secondary reason, also related to the graphics being so bogged down on Myspace that it made Myspace extremely slow. Sometimes you would wait a good twenty minutes to load a graphic heavy page. People got bored and went looking around for something else to do. They found Facebook. I know for me that was my reason, the website had gotten ridiculously slow. Which BTW, I went over to check it out with all the hype and its still slow!
Last reason I'll note today is games, Facebook had awesome games like Farmville, Garden Spot, Odd Socks, Angry Birds and Criminal Case to name a few!! Myspace had some for those who looked for them but they weren't nearly as advanced, user friendly or able to be shared with friends in a social aspect to play together. Facebook built there gaming aspect to be social from the start which attracted alot of users, myself included. Today all of those great games are mostly gone, most of them ruined when Java was shut down several years ago in the aspect it was used then. Could they have been saved? Yes but that's a whole different blog subject.
I personally am happy right here on FriendRewind. I do miss the gaming aspect but that's really not the same as it as 20 years ago, anywhere really. Also a different blog subject! I am on Spacehey as well but it has not taken off nearly as much as FriendRewind has!
If anyone else remembers any other reasons to add lets hear them! Those are the ones I remember!
