So I just have to talk about this real quick because it’s been annoying me for a while and I just want to know if I’m being insensitive or not.
So there’s this creator (not named John) has been making an autobiographical series about themselves online, it’s animated in a simple style if you’ve seen it you know it. The series is about the creator’s life separated into “Eras”, each era is represented by a characterized version of the creator from that age (so like frog girl, and then bird girl) the creator has been very clear that these are depictions of themselves. This project is meant for their healing process (so far so good, we love to see it)
I first got a little off put when they made a short about there eras becoming sorta of super villains. I’ll try to add a media player (do NOT go harass the creator, if I find that they are getting threats from this ill take down all the media players)

And this just feels wrong to me! Like I wouldn’t buy an acrylic standee of Janette mcurdy holding her mom’s urn, why is this ok!?
And I almost get it, get that bag,
but when your series is predominantly shorts, half of which have silly sound effects and calm bgm, and the other half is you SCREAMING into the microphone, I think selling 20 dollar t-shirts is a bit predatory.
I’m honestly just guessing, but from demographics of who watches shorts I doubt the main audience for this is over the age of 24. I also would take a guess that the people watching this series are probably also going through some things.
A mix of mental health issues and being under 24 is not a good mix with an emotionally taxing series and 20 dollar tshirts. I know this because I’m under 25, I’m mentally ill, and I have bought stuff I shouldn’t have bought in the past because of these facts.
It’s the same problem I have with YouTuber plushies just made worse by the trauma fact.
So yea, is this weird? Am I weird? IDK I might delete this post tomorrow I just had to get this off my chest
